GLASMUSEET EBELTOFT – ONE OF THE WORLD’S LEADING MUSEUMS FOR CONTEMPORARY GLASS ART
In Djursland, beautifully situated by the Bay of Ebeltoft, lies one of the world’s leading museum for modern international glass art; recognised globally for its world-class exhibitions and its unique collection. On the initiative of ceramic artist and studio glass pioneer Finn Lynggaard, who moved to Ebeltoft in 1980, and in close partnership with local forces, including managing director Erling Rasmussen of leading manufacturer of design textiles Kvadrat, the Glass Museum in Ebeltoft was inaugurated in 1986 in the beautiful old Customs House, designed by Hack Kampmann. In 2006 a modern wing was added, designed by 3XN. Today the museum is the pivotal point for a powerful, professional glass-making community, and the location for experiencing all the many facets of glass art – from the craft in the workshop, and the exciting young generation, to the biggest international names.
