HIDDEN - BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

HIDDEN – BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

08.10. 2016 – 28.05. 2017

On 28th June 1986, Glasmuseet Ebeltoft opened its doors to visitors for the first time, so this summer the museum could celebrate its 30th anniversary. An occasion to reflect upon time passed.

Through exhibitions, activities and the collection the aim of the museum is to focus on contemporary glass and show the current tendencies.

With the exhibition Hidden – but not forgotten the museum looks at the development that has taken place over time by presenting works from the collection, which are normally not given much attention, but which still play an important part.

The museum’s collection is outstanding on many levels. It consists of 1600 works created by 700 artists from 52 countries, and it bears witness to the great development, which characterizes glass art over the last four decades.

From the beginning, the founding idea behind the museum was to create a museum with close connection to the makers. A museum, which the makers consider their own – a defining condition for the museum’s work then and now. This has resulted in a rather unique policy for the collection, as the artists themselves were allowed to chose the works, they felt should be included in the collection.

Almost all the pioneers within the studio glass movement are represented in the collection, which makes it one of the most significant collections in Europe.

At the same time the exhibition contains works, which have been included in the collection in spite of the fact that similar techniques or artistic considerations were already represented. These works, which have been a little overlooked on our storage shelves for a number of years, will now be brought forward out of respect for those who have trusted us with their work. The exhibition will thus be a retrospective presentation of the last 30 years.

Hidden – but not forgotten will be presented in the museum’s old building, The Custom’s House, 08.10. 2016 – 28.05. 2017.

The exhibition has been supported by:

Otto Bruuns Fond
